Andreas E. Schmidt

Andreas E. Schmidt (born January 18, 1959 in Beckingen / Saar ) is a German folklorist and university lecturer at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel .

Life

Andreas Schmidt graduated from high school in 1979 and then studied European ethnology and cultural research ( Peter Assion , Hans-Friedrich Foltin ), modern German literature ( Marie-Luise Gansberg ), pedagogy ( Peter Büchner , Klaus Ahlheim ), art history ( Alexander Perrig , Franz-Joachim Verspohl ), social psychology and Danish in Marburg . There he received his dissertation in 1989 on “Political Authority in Jokes. On the basis of the prevalence as an agent of political jokes in the Federal Republic of Germany including a research report "with Peter Assion zum Dr. phil. PhD .

He then received a teaching position at the Institute for Cultural Anthropology in Frankfurt am Main and worked as a research assistant at the Josefine Weihrauch Museum of Local History in Neudenau / Jagst .

After a year, Schmidt moved to the Institute for Folklore in Freiburg , where he initially worked as a research assistant and from 1993 as a university assistant. His habilitation took place in 1997 with the text ", clouds crash, mountains tremble and the whole earth cries ... 'On the cultural mediation of natural disasters in Germany from 1755 to 1855" . That same year, Schmidt received a call to the Visiting Professor at the Department of Ethnology at the University of Kiel. After three semesters, he was appointed professor in 1999 to succeed Kai Detlev Sievers .

Looking back, Schmidt mentions mass communication research, cultural politics and working-class culture research as interests during his studies in Marburg.

During his time in Freiburg, he dealt with historically working folklore and dealt with questions of the perception of nature and the processes of conveying culture and nature. He names folklore theory building, narrative research and empathy research as further priorities at this time.

Schmidt is currently researching the relationship between culture as a fetish and culture as an emanation.
