Andreas Hager (born February 7, 1818 in Nuremberg , † February 27, 1892 in Munich ) was a musician , composer and military bandmaster of the Bavarian Army .

Life

He was the son of the stick trumpeter in the 6th Chevaulegers Regiment , Johann Hager, and was therefore familiar with military music at an early stage .

Hager attended the German School in Nuremberg, received his basic musical training in playing the piano , violin and trumpet from his father and completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter . Hager used the hiking time that was then prescribed for journeyman carpenters to join the 1st Cuirassier Regiment of the Bavarian Army in Munich as a trumpeter candidate.

When in 1838 the position of horn player in the 1st Jäger Battalion in Burghausen was advertised, Hager applied with success. In 1848 he went to Ansbach and became a stick trumpeter of the 2nd Chevaulegers regiment "Taxis" . In 1856 he took over the position of music director at the Landwehr Regiment in Munich. After the regiment was dissolved in 1869, he worked as a freelance musician.

The “ Von-der-Tann-Marsch ”, which is based on motifs from Franconian folk dances and which he dedicated to Field Marshal Ludwig von der Tann-Rathsamhausen in 1871, stands out from his compositional work . From 1895 this march became the parade march in company fronts of the 11th Infantry Regiment "von der Tann" . The march was transferred to the Prussian Army March Collection under the signature AM II, 251.
