Andreas Hopmann

Andreas Heinrich Dietrich Carl Hopmann (born March 30, 1870 in Gemünden, Soest district ; † April 1, 1943 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) was a German local politician; he was mayor of Hettstedt in the southern Harz and then in Kettwig in the Ruhr area .

Andreas Hopmann was elected mayor of the city of Hettstedt in the southern Harz for twelve years in 1898 and November 1910.

His last term of office in Hettstedt was ended prematurely, because on October 12, 1916 Hopmann was elected mayor of the city of Kettwig in what was then the Essen district for twelve years . He replaced his predecessor, Mayor Wilhelm Thiermann. The inauguration took place on January 16, 1917. In 1929 he was re-elected for another term. Same person he was also mayor of Kettwig and the mayor Kettwig country to which the communities Heisingen , circumstance and Vierhonnschaften belonged. The city of Kettwig was assigned to the Düsseldorf-Mettmann district in 1929, as the Essen district was dissolved when the city of Essen became free. At his own request, Hopmann had himself retired on April 1, 1931. Friedrich Ulrich was his successor.

On March 24, 1923, at the time of the occupation of the Ruhr , Andreas Hopmann was sentenced by the French police court to four months' imprisonment and 500,000 marks in cash for refusing to carry out a requisition order from the French occupation authorities  . He was brought to prison in Düsseldorf - Derendorf and transferred to Zweibrücken in Rhineland-Palatinate at the beginning of May .

Honors

On October 25, 1927, Hopmannplatz in Essen-Kettwig was named after Andreas Hopmann. This was done as a thank you for promoting the model settlement on the Bögelsknappen as mayor.
