Andreas Jeitteles (born November 24, 1799 in Prague ; † 1878 ) was a physician, writer and politician.

Life and family

Andreas Ludwig Jeitteles came from a German-speaking Jewish family of scholars from Bohemia who produced numerous scientists and writers in the 18th and 19th centuries, e. B. the journalist and narrator Ignaz Jeitteles (1783–1843) and the comedy poet and doctor Alois Jeitteles . His sons, the Germanist Adalbert (1831–1908) and the zoologist Ludwig Jeitteles (1830–1883) were well-known scholars.

Andreas Jeitteles studied medicine at the Universities of Vienna and Graz and completed his studies in 1825 with a doctorate in medicine. med. from.

Scientific and political career

After completing his studies, he became a prosector at the anatomical department of the University of Vienna in 1829 , and in 1835 he moved to the medical faculty of the University of Olomouc , where he was elected rector for the years 1841/2. When the revolution broke out in 1848, he was nominated and elected for the constituency of Olomouc / Moravia as a candidate for the Frankfurt National Assembly. He took his seat in Frankfurt on May 20, 1848 and initially remained non-attached. But he soon joined the “ March Association ” faction , which included many well-known MPs (e.g. Ludwig Feuerbach and Ferdinand Freiligrath ) who campaigned, left-wing liberal, for democratic freedom and fundamental rights. Disappointed about the failure of these efforts and the beginning of the counter-revolution in Prussia and Austria, he resigned on January 25, 1849.

Literary endeavors

Andreas Jeitteles not only published scientific works, but was also fruitful as a fiction writer, albeit under the pseudonym Justus Frey, under whom he wrote as a poet and dramatist.
