The Lange See ( listen ? / I ) is a 34-hectare lake in Garzin, a district of the municipality of Garzau-Garzin in the Brandenburg district of Märkisch-Oderland . The body of water lies in the western area of the Märkische Schweiz nature park . Audio file / audio sample

The elongated natural lake is part of a Vistula glacial melt water side channel on the southeastern Barnim , which begins at the 168 hectare Ruhlsdorfer Bruch nature reserve with the Ruhlsdorfer See and, like the Lange See, is traversed by the Lichtenower Mühlenfließ . The water, which is largely surrounded by forest, is used for fishing and fishing. On the east bank near Garzin there is a public, natural sandy beach with a lawn. The European cycle route R1 leads past the lake.

Geomorphology and hydrology

Chain of lakes of the meltwater channel

The Lange See is the largest channel lake in a chain of lakes that stretches from the Ruhlsdorfer See near Ruhlsdorf via the Steigsee and Garziner Haussee to the Schmettauschen Castle Park in Garzau . In historical times there is said to have been another body of water in the chain of lakes with the Blättersee. The lakes are traversed by the Lichtenower Mühlenfließ, which drains the erosion channel over the Kageler Seenkette from Elsensee , Baberowsee , Bauernsee and Liebenberger See to Löcknitz into the Buckower channel. The Buckower channel (also: Löcknitz- Stobber -Rinne ) has in the last two phases of the Weichselian glacial between that of dead ice -filled or break and the Berliner Urstromtal (today Spreetal) emerged and separates the Barnimplatte of the Lebuser plate . This channel, around 30 kilometers long and two to six kilometers wide, drains from the neighboring fen and headwaters area Rotes Luch via the Stobber to the northeast to the Oder and via Stobberbach / Löcknitz to the southwest to the Spree .

It is unclear whether there was originally a connection between the Ruhlsdorfer See and the Haussee. This section of the mill river may have been artificially created in the course of a system of ditches for the production of meadow areas. The long lake is at a height of 60.1 m above sea level. NN . The slope of the channel from Langen See to Elsensee is 31.4 meters. North of the Langen See, the late Ice Age erosion forms at Garziner Haussee are protected as an extensive natural monument with around 13 hectares in accordance with Section 28 of the BNatSchG .

Water profile and bathing water quality

The long lake is almost divided into two basins by a protruding peninsula. The northern basin runs from east to west. After the peninsula, the lake with the second basin bends to the southwest. The total extension is to be around 1.7 kilometers in east-west direction and around 600 meters in north-south direction. Its area is given as 34 hectares. The maximum depth is around four, the average depth around two meters.

An examination of the bathing water quality in 2006 revealed no complaints. However, the indicators Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci according to the bathing water directive of the EC of 2006/07 were not examined , but total and faecal coliforms according to the directive 76/160 EEC of 1975. This resulted in a value of <30/100 for total coliforms at the beginning of May ml and at the beginning of June of 150/100 ml (conductance 500/100 ml; limit value 10000/100 ml). The exposure to faecal coliforms was <30/100 ml at both times (conductance 100/100 ml; limit value 2000/100 ml). The pH was 7.5 in each case. The visibility depth was determined to be 2.0 meters in May and 2.8 meters in June. In 2011 the picture was slightly different. In this investigation, the value for the total coliforms clearly approached the guide value 500/100 ml and the brief evaluation was microbiologically not objectionable - excellent

Management, flora and fauna

Common toad pair in the spawning waters of the Long Lake, 2011

The lake is used by anglers and professional fishermen . According to the Brandenburg Red List , pikeperch and eels are in decline in the lake . Occasionally, pike also live in the water. Other species of fish are carp , silver carp , bream , silver bream , crucian carp (in Brandenburg Concern), perch , roach , rudd and bleak .

Common toads that are particularly protected according to the Federal Species Protection Ordinance (BArtSchV) live in the spawning waters , although they are only classified as endangered in the Brandenburg Red List . The frog from the genus of the real toad is generally crepuscular and rests during the day under stones, crumbling walls, dead wood, leaves, bushes or in self-dug holes in the ground. In 1944 there was evidence of the petite moss damsel at the lake . The sailing dragonfly (Libellulidae) from the genus Moosjungfern is classified as critically endangered in the Red List of Germany (Category 1) and in the Red List of Brandenburg as critically endangered (Category 2). The natural water is partly covered by water lilies , surrounded by a wide belt of reeds and almost completely surrounded by forest. Alluvial forests characterize the swampy areas on the southern outflow of the Mühlenfließ and to the north to the Haussee and are habitat for eagles and the otters, which according to the Red List are highly endangered in Brandenburg . At the Mühlenfließ there is a remarkable aquatic vegetation made up of flooding buttercups and water stars .

Settlement and beach

As the Garzin castle wall shows, the region on the Long Lake was already at the latest by the Slavic period in the 8th / 10th. Settled in the 19th century. Garzin's beginnings lay on a peninsula surrounded by the forerunner of the house lake. Old Garzin family names such as "Fehrmann" indicate the profession of ferryman, which was probably practiced here when the surrounding landscape was criss-crossed by canals. The German town of Garzin is mentioned for the first time in 1309 and was owned by the Wulkow family until the beginning of the 16th century , after which it was owned by the von Pfuel family . The street perch village with a listed stone church from the 13th century extends from the east bank of the lake to the north to the Haussee. At the entrance to the village on the east bank of the Long Lake there is an unsupervised swimming area with a sandy beach sloping gently into the water and a jetty. The lawn extends up the slope to a parking lot on the  K 4617 district road .
