Geographical location

To the east of the locality of Kagel-Möllensee is the Elsensee , which is fed by the Lichtenower Mühlenfließ (also Zinndorfer Mühlenfließ , Zinndorfer Fließ , or Garzower Mühlenfließ ).

In the past, an important trade route ran through the village from Berlin via Friedrichsfelde , Biesdorf and Tasdorf across the Kageler "Seenpass" (between Baberow and Bauernsee ), over the Löcknitzpass near Liebenberg in the direction of Lebus and ends in Frankfurt (Oder) .

Surname

The place name developed from the words Kogele , Kagula and Cagell in the 17th century to Kagel . However, the origin and meaning are unclear.

history

Archaeological traces of Slavic settlement are known in the vicinity of Kagel . The place was first mentioned in 1375 in the land book of Emperor Charles IV . During this time there was a branch ( curia ) of the Cistercian monastery Zinna in Kagel , from which it administered its possessions in Barnim.

Kagel was a farming village with up to 250 inhabitants. In the Thirty Years' War Kagel suffered as the whole region, among the consequences of war. The population was only 83 in 1624. In the following years the village recovered only slowly.

1868 tore parish the old half-timbered church , and built a brick building.

Customs

In the villages of the former Rüdersdorf office there was an institution that had been handed down from ancient times until about the middle of the last century under the name “Young Neighbor Service”. The neighboring service imposed certain obligations and services on the local mayor and the village court on the youngest landlord of the village, the youngest owner of a property, regardless of whether he had acquired an economy through purchase, inheritance or in some other way , until another took his place.

Former building complexes

  • Former courtyard of the Zinna monastery: During excavations carried out by the Märkisches Museum Berlin in 1882, remnants of medieval stone masonry were found. This probably belonged to the court of the Cistercians from the Zinna monastery .
  • Former castle: The chemical manufacturer Kahlbaum built a hunting lodge for himself on the Bauernsee in 1902 . It was reported that the last huge field stones of the medieval Zinna settlement found their place there in an artificial grotto in the park of the castle. After the First World War , Kahlbaum sold the Kageler Schloss to the wholesaler Heinrichs. After the Second World War , the castle was released for demolition. Only the farm building remained and was used by VEB Messelektronik as a children's holiday camp during the GDR era . After the fall of the Wall in 1990, the building was no longer used and was damaged by vandalism.
  • Former bunker of the NVA: The first bunker system built by the GDR was located near the village, the Kagel bunker used by the Ministry of National Defense as a radio control center .

present

After the reunification in the GDR , the place developed. In particular, the settlement of the Median clinics in Grünheide and the promotion of small and medium-sized businesses by the local authority ensured that large numbers of people moved in.

In 2009 about 1050 people lived in Kagel. The town center where the events take place is the town's cultural center.

On December 31, 2001, Kagel was incorporated into Grünheide (Mark).
