Andreas Kern (* 1975 in Johannesburg ) is a German concert pianist .

education

Andreas Kern studied piano in Berlin and Cologne with Günter Ludwig and Pascal Devoyon. His work as a concert pianist has taken him to date as a soloist and chamber music partner through Europe, Africa, USA, Canada, India, China and Japan. In addition to various master classes, jury memberships and teaching activities at home and abroad, Andreas Kern was already concerned with the idea of ​​presenting classical music to a new, young audience in a contemporary manner.

Projects

In addition to his classical piano recitals, Andreas Kern continues to develop new projects and concert formats through which he successfully presents classical music in new locations and thus opens up new worlds of listening to his audience. He likes to deal with other art movements such as the visual arts and contemporary dance.

For the TV channel Arte he created the successful TV show Arte Lounge, which was nominated for the Grimme Prize . As co-moderator and pianist of the show, he regularly makes music in a Berlin club with important musicians such as Renaud Capuçon , Sol Gabetta , Vadim Repin , Sarah Chang , Maurice Steger , Mischa Maisky , Elīna Garanča , and many others. The success of the show led to further engagements as a presenter, for example for the event "Opera for Everyone" at the Bavarian State Opera .

In 2009, Andreas Kern and pianist Paul Cibis created the "Piano Battle", which has meanwhile been admired at festivals around the world, an original concert experience in six rounds in which the audience becomes the jury and ultimately decides which of the two pianistic duels will be the first to roll his grand piano down the home straight . "Piano Battle" offers an entertaining mixture of a serious classical music show and fun and interaction between two charismatic musicians with the audience.

In 2010 Andreas Kern launched the "Piano City Berlin" Festival, where the city was immersed in music over a weekend with 100 piano concerts. The "Piano City" festival is now being successfully continued in other cities, including a. in Milan, Naples and Barcelona.

From 2009 to 2013 Andreas Kern was the Artistic Director of the Darling Music Experience, a classical music festival in Darling, South Africa.

In 2014 Andreas Kern published his first CD with his own compositions. He got his inspiration for this from classical composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Robert Schumann , but also from the contemporary works of Yann Tiersen , Ludovico Einaudi and Michael Nyman .
