Andreas Orgler
Andreas Orgler (born January 1, 1962 in Innsbruck ; † January 4, 2007 in Forbes , Australia ) was an Austrian alpinist , architect and hang-glider pilot.
Life
Orgler made a name for himself in the early 1980s with sensational first ascents in the VIII UIAA grade . He developed important routes mainly in the Stubai Alps , the Karwendel and Alaska , but also in the Karakoram . Overall, he recorded in the rock about 250 first ascents and about 50 solo -Erstbegehungen, where he made climbing ethical reasons bolts waived. Orgler also played an important role in the development of ice climbing , including around 70 first ascents of ice falls. Among his approx. 20 first ski runs include: a. 1986 the Mayerlrampe on the Großglockner and the first continuous ascent of the Ortler north face in 1983. He also became known as the author of mountain and climbing guides and was involved in the further development of mountain sports equipment. In 1995 Andreas Orgler was the first Austrian to be honored with the Piolet d'Or , one of the highest alpine awards.
In the last years of his life, Orgler turned more and more away from extreme mountain sports, developed into a successful architect and began to deal intensively with hang-gliding . He soon started practicing this sport at a high level: He soon attracted attention with courageous long-haul flights and at the end of 2006 was already top of the online contest world rankings. In 2007 he was killed in a crash during a lowland competition in Australia due to material failure.
