The German photo and art book publisher Hatje Cantz published Andreas Schmidt's first photo book in 2005 under the title “Las Vegas”. In the text accompanying the book, Christoph Ribbat writes : "Strict cataloging, ecstatic enthusiasm for light, ironic comments on architainment - Schmidt pulls all of these registers. The sobriety of New Topographics resonates, the humor of New Color, the smart objectivity newer German photo art. " In a postcard to Schmidt, the British writer JG Ballard described Schmidt as the "poet of the hotel corridor".

Hatje Cantz published Schmidt's second photo book in 2009, in which Schmidt takes a critical look at London's financial district in his photographs. The British art and photography critic Roy Exley explains in his text “The Drama of Illusion: The City” in the book: “They are photographs that often play the role of photography and thus also the role of the viewer of these architectural photographs, but also the role question the architecture. "

In 2009, Schmidt was a founding member of ABC Artists' Books Cooperative , an international network by and for artists who create print-on-demand artist books ; he left the cooperative in 2014. On November 14, 2013 Schmidt presented his total book art work sculpture, 77 print-on-demand books on a handmade shelf, to the public for the first time during the “Offprint” art book fair in Paris .

His artist's book "The Time Machine" was in 2015 in the group exhibition on "A History of Photography Series and Sequences" Victoria and Albert Museum shown in London, which also works by Nicholas Nixon , August Sander , Eadweard Muybridge and Lewis Baltz were seen .

Schmidt's works are in numerous collections, such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the FRAC Center in Orléans , the “Center Des Livres Artistes” in Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche and the “Minnesota Center for Book Arts” in Minneapolis in the USA .

After living in London for 22 years, Schmidt moved to Berlin in 2014 and opened the “Galerie Andreas Schmidt” in 2016 with a focus on contemporary art and photography.
