Bishop Andreas Thiel

Andreas Thiel (born September 28, 1826 in Lokau near Seeburg in the Rößel district ; † July 17, 1908 in Frauenburg ) was Bishop of Warmia from 1886 to 1908 .

Life

He attended the village school in Lokau and, on the advice of his teacher, the Progymnasium in Rößel and the Gymnasium Hosianum in Braunsberg . In Braunsberg he studied theology at the Lyceum Hosianum . He was ordained a priest in 1849.

Following his doctorate, he began teaching in 1853 as a private lecturer at the Braunsberg Academy. From 1855 Thiel was an associate professor and from 1858 professor for church history and canon law. Together with others he founded the Historical Association for Warmia and published articles on the Warmia cultural history in its journal.

In 1870 he became cathedral capitular and in 1871 vicar general of the Bishop of Warmia. In 1885 he was appointed Bishop of Warmia and consecrated in 1886.

As a scientist, he mainly dealt with the older papal history as well as the Warmia diocese and cultural history.
