Hans-Jürgen Karp

Hans-Jürgen Karp (born February 20, 1935 in Marienwerder , West Prussia region ) is a German historian and publisher.

Life

Hans-Jürgen Karp studied philosophy at the University of Bonn , where he met with the 1969 dissertation of borders in concept and reality East Central Europe during the Middle Ages doctorate was. From 1973 to 1998 he worked at the Herder Institute in Marburg , most recently as Deputy Director . In addition, he worked for the Herder Research Council at the Philipps University of Marburg since 1979 .

From 1982 to 1990 he was editor of the magazine for East Central Europe research (ZfO), editor of the magazine for history and antiquity of Warmia and co-author of the yearbook Prussia . In 1989 he took over the chairmanship of the Historical Association for Warmia (HVE), succeeding Brigitte Poschmann .

He wrote monographs and essays on the history of East Central Europe since the Middle Ages , the educational systems after the end of the war in Poland and Czechoslovakia, as well as ethnic and denominational differentiations in Poland after 1990. In 1981 he published the Bürgerbuch 1731-1851 from Mesernitz to Konrad Rittershausen . This was followed by biographical writings on personalities of the Catholic Church such as Tiedemann Giese , August Hlond , Stanislaus Hosius , Johannes Paul II , Maximilian Kaller , Franz Kuhschmalz , Franz Scholz , Christoph Andreas Johann Szembek , Carl Maria Splett , Bernhard Stasiewski and Andreas Thiel .
