Athletic career

Until 1970 Andreas Wachter played at FC Carl Zeiss Jena in the GDR-wide junior league . For the 1970/71 season, the Jena Club Wachter took on the squad of the 2nd team that competed in the second-rate GDR league . In his first season in the men's division, Wachter immediately won a regular place with 27 appearances and two goals in 30 league games. He was able to defend this at FCC II in the following three seasons. During this period, a total of 66 GDR league games were played, of which Wachter completed 55 matches and scored six times. He played his first GDR league games in the 1972/73 season. After he was officially accepted into the league squad for the season, he came on for the first time on matchday 6 in the match between FCC - BFC Dynamo (3: 1) in the 58th minute for defender Lothar Kurbjuweit , after which he was in the last five Point games of the season also as a defender in the starting line-up. Although he was always nominated for the league team for the following seasons, he did not get there beyond the role of the substitute player. Only in the 1974/75 and 1975/76 seasons he had an acceptable record with thirteen and twelve appearances in 26 league games each. In these games he was typically used as a left defender. Until 1976, he was also called up in addition to his league operations in the GDR league team FCC II. When the second teams of the league teams were banned from the GDR league for the 1976/77 season, Wachter played with FCC II in the third-class district league .

In the 1973/74 and 1975/76 seasons, Wachter also played in European Cups. In the 1973/74 UEFA Cup , FC Carl Zeiss made it to the second round. Wachter was used as right defender in one game, the encounter between FCC and MP Mikkeli (Finland), in the 3-0 win for Jena. FC Carl Zeiss also played in the UEFA Cup in the 1975/76 season , but only made it to the second round. After Jena had surprisingly eliminated Olympique Marseille in the first round, the surprising end came against the Polish representative FKS Stal Mielec with 1-0 and 2: 3 on penalties. In the first leg Wachter was substituted on in the 41st minute, in the second leg he played the entire game in the central defensive position.

After Wachter was drafted for military service in the National People's Army in 1978/79 , he played one last league game for FC Carl Zeiss Jena in 1979/80. From the 1980/81 season, he played two seasons with the GDR league club company sports community (BSG) Wismut Gera . Of the 44 league games played in total, Wachter was mainly used as a libero in 35 matches and was successful with a point goal in each season. Although he was planned for the 1982/83 season for the league squad, he was no longer used. Even later, he no longer appeared in the higher-class football business. Within ten seasons he had played 38 league games and 137 GDR league games with ten goals.
