Andrei Ivanovitch ( Russian Андрей Иванович Andrei Iwanowitsch ; * 1968 in Bucharest , Romania ) is a Romanian concert pianist.

Life

Andrei Ivanovitch, a great grandson of the Romanian composer Iosif Ivanovici , grew up in Saint Petersburg ( Russia ) and began his pianistic training in 1975 at the Central Music School of the Leningrad State Conservatory in Nina Perunova's class. He completed his studies with distinction at the Leningrad Conservatory , at the Russian Academy for Music in Moscow and at the Karlsruhe University of Music with Teodor Gutman, Nikita Jushanin and Peter Eicher. During his studies, Ivanovitch became a laureate and prizewinner at international competitions in Cologne (Tomassoni Foundation) and Salerno / Italy (1st prize) in 1992, in Terni / Italy (3rd prize) in 1994, in Maryland / USA (special prize) in 1994, Cagliari / Italy (1 prize) 1994, and at the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati / USA (1 prize, gold medal) 1994. At that time Andrei Ivanovitch played with the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic , the Russian National Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Staatskapelle (Saint Petersburg) and the Baden -Baden Philharmonic, the Tbilisi Philharmonic.

On his American debut at Lincoln Center (New York), the New York Concert Review compared his pianistic art with Dinu Lipatti's . Since 2003 he has been an honorary member of the Chopin Society. The Canadian film “Glen Gould. Russion Jurney ”with Ivanovitch's interpretation of the“ Art of Fugue ”by Johann Sebastian Bach was awarded the Grand Prix at the International Film Festival in Montreal.

In addition to radio and video recordings, Andrei Ivanovitch has recorded 15 CDs with works by Chopin , Rachmaninoff , Debussy , Mussorgsky and Prokofiev . In October 2007 he met the jazz pianist Eyran Katsenelenbogen for the first time in order to create a new form of piano concerto together.
