history
The band was formed in August 2008 by Nate Ruess , previously part of The Format , Andrew Dost from Anathallo and Jack Antonoff from Steel Train. The debut album Aim and Ignite was recorded in August 2008 with producer Steven McDonald and arranger Roger Joseph Manning Jr., the former keyboardist of Jellyfish .
In February 2010 the band appeared together with Vedera as a supporting act for Jack's Mannequin on their tour. Two months later, fun occurred. in the opening act of Paramore . In the same year, the online travel agency Expedia used the single Walking the Dog for a television commercial.
In early 2012, their single We Are Young made it to number 1 on the US Billboard charts through use of the song in the US series Glee and Gossip Girl . The single was also able to reach high chart positions internationally, including number one in Great Britain, Austria and fourth in Germany.
The follow-up single Some Nights , released in June 2012 , became a top five hit in the USA and Great Britain, among others. At the 2013 Grammy Awards , fun. received the Grammy Award for Best New Artist , while the single We Are Young was named "Song of the Year".
