Andrew Pataki

Andrew Pataki (born August 30, 1927 in Palmerton , Pennsylvania , † December 8, 2011 in Passaic , New Jersey ) was an American clergyman and bishop of the Passaic eparchy of the Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church in the United States .

Life

Andrew Pataki studied from 1944 at St. Prokop College Seminary in Lisle, Illinois , and at the Byzantine Catholic Seminary of Sts. Cyril and Methodius in Pittsburgh . On February 24, 1952, he was ordained a priest of the Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church in the chapel of Daniel Ivancho's seminary . He graduated in Canon Law from the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome (STL). He has served as pastor in Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia and Ohio, and New Jersey. He was rector of the seminary of Sts. Cyril and Methodius in Pittsburgh. From 1973 to 1978 he was a member of the Pontifical Commission for the Revision of the Oriental Code of Canon Law. Pope Paul VI appointed him papal honorary prelate .

In 1983 he was named titular bishop of Telmissus by Pope John Paul II and appointed auxiliary bishop of the Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church in the USA, based in New Jersey . In 1984 he was appointed bishop of the Parma Eparchy in Ohio . In 1995 he was appointed by John Paul II to succeed Michael Dudick as Bishop of Passaic dei Ruteni, one of four dioceses of the Ruthenian Byzantine Catholic Metropolitanate in the United States . 2007 was his resignation by Benedict XVI. granted; his successor was William Skurla .

He died as a result of a traffic accident.
