William Skurla

William Charles Skurla , also William C. Skurla , (born June 1, 1956 in Duluth , Minnesota , USA ) is Archbishop of the Pittsburgh Archepark of the Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church in the United States .

Life

William Charles Skurla studied at Columbia University in New York City and studied religious studies and Catholic theology at the Maria Immaculate Seminary in Northampton , Pennsylvania . He was ordained a priest in the Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church on May 23, 1987 .

On 19 February 2002 he was selected by Pope John Paul II. Bishop of the Eparchy of Van Nuys , based in Phoenix appointed. He was ordained bishop on April 23, 2002 by the Bishop of Passaic , Andrew Pataki ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Parma , Basil Myron Schott , and his predecessor George Martin Kuzma . In 2007 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. Appointed Bishop of Passaic, one of four dioceses of the Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church in the United States. On April 18, 2012, he was installed as Archbishop of Pittsburgh.

From May 7, 2016 to June 24, 2017, he was also Apostolic Administrator of the vacant Eparchy of Parma .
