Basil Myron Schott OFM (born September 21, 1939 in Freeland , Pennsylvania , † June 10, 2010 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania) was Bishop of the Ruthenian Greek Catholic Eparchy of Parma and Archbishop of the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh .

Life

Basil Myron Schott joined after graduating from the St. Gabriel High School in Hazleton in 1958 the Congregation of the Franciscan (Byzantine Franciscans) at. In 1959 he made his profession . He studied philosophy and theology at Immaculate Conception College , Troy, and theology and pastoral care at St. Mary Seminary , Norwalk . On August 29, 1965, Basil Myron Schott was ordained a priest . He held numerous offices in the Order; In 1988 he served on the staff of the United States Superior General.

Pope John Paul II appointed him bishop of the Parma Eparchy on February 3, 1996 . The episcopal ordination took place on July 11 of the same year by the Archbishop of Pittsburgh , Judson Michael Procyk ; Co- consecrators were Andrew Pataki , Bishop of Passaic , and George Martin Kuzma , Bishop of Van Nuys . On May 3, 2002, he became the Ruthenian Greek Catholic Archbishop of Pittsburgh and on July 9, 2002, he was ceremonially instituted.

He was President of the Council of the Church of Ruthenia in the United States. On March 7, 2009 he was by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed member of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches . In the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) he was Chairman of the Commission on Relations between the Orthodox and Latin Churches. He was also a member of the Consecrated Life Commissions, Mission and Chair of the Commission for Region XV of the USCCB.

Basil Myron Schott died of complications from cancer in the UPMC Passavant Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was buried at Mount St. Macrina in Uniontown .
