Andrew Thomas (born January 22, 1999 in Lithonia , Georgia ) is an American football player on the offensive tackle position for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). He attended Pace Academy and the University of Georgia and was selected by the Giants in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft .

High school

When he played on both sides of football at Pace Academy, Thomas's coaches praised his work ethic. After his high school career, Thomas played in the Army's All-American Game. On July 10, 2016, he went to Georgia, preferring the Bulldogs over offerings from Alabama , Auburn , Florida and others.

college

Thomas started every game as a right tackle in his freshman season, earning him the Freshman All-American award at the end of the season . In his second season, Thomas moved to the left. He injured his left ankle during the game against South Carolina and stopped playing the following game against Middle Tennessee . In the next two games, Thomas worked his way back completely, although he was forced to wear a bandage after a renewed ankle injury later in the season. After paving the way for 331 rushing yards against Kentucky, Thomas was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week. After the season he was named to the first team All American and the first team All-SEC. Thomas was also invited to the NCAA Elite Football Symposium the winter of his sophomore season ; the program helps athletes prepare for the transition from college to the NFL. Prior to his junior season, Thomas was listed as a potential first round candidate in the 2020 NFL Draft if he left Georgia after his junior year. On December 17, 2019, Thomas announced that he would be giving up his senior year and participating in the 2020 NFL Draft, which would also skip the 2020 Sugar Bowl.
