Andrey Alexander (birth name Alexander Andreev; * in Khabarovsk , Siberia) is an artist, director and author .

Life

Andrey Alexander studied pantomime , classical ballet and acrobatics at the Moscow “Green Theater” . This was followed by studies at the Academy of Theater Studies in Moscow , from which he graduated with an acting exam and a directing diploma. He then worked for many years as a soloist in the traditional Moscow pantomime ensemble. In 1980 he met Marcel Marceau in Moscow , with whom he enjoyed a long friendship until his death.

Since 1990 he has performed his solo programs all over the world, for example at the All World Festival Moscow, the International Pantomime Festival Primorsko / Bulgaria, the Festival Gestisches Theater Berlin, First International Pantomime Festival Shanghai and others. He has received awards at numerous international festivals.

He has been touring Russia and Ukraine with the author and filmmaker Angelika Gebhard since 1996 and with her produced books and documentaries about them, which were broadcast on German television's third channels.

In 2007 he began a complete photographic reconstruction of the four friezes of the Pergamon Altar . In 2010 he published the reconstruction of the east frieze in a calendar . In 2013, his photographic art exhibition Giants versus Gods was on view in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow. Further exhibitions followed, for example in 2015 in the Moscow Architecture Museum and in 2017 as a German premiere in Munich under the title The Two Lives of the Pergamon Altar .
