The Delius Klasing Verlag GmbH is a German special-interest publisher . The fourth generation family company publishes books , calendars , magazines and electronic media in the main segments of water sports , cycling , sports and automobiles . The publishing house is based in Bielefeld in East Westphalia . The magazine editors and book editors are based in Hamburg , Munich and Stuttgart .

history

The publishing house was founded in 1911 by Konrad Delius , the grandfather of today's publisher and his father-in-law Johannes Klasing , in Berlin . The company specialized in technical topics. The publishing house in Berlin starts with a handful of employees with automobile and aviation magazines such as the “Illustrierte Aeronautische Kommunikation”, the “Allgemeine Automobil Zeitung” for short AAZ and “Der Motorradfahrer”.

After the First World War , the topic of water sports followed. In 1914 the first Delius Klasing book was published under the title “Breakdowns and their elimination on the tour” at a price of 90  pfennigs . In 1923 the publishing house took over the YACHT magazine from the Berlin publishing house Dr. Wedekind . In 1929 the book “Seemannschaft” was published for the first time. After the Second World War , around 10,000 copies of the “seamanship” were the start-up capital for the publishing house in Bielefeld, East Westphalia.

Konrad-Wilhelm Delius took over the management in 1946 at the age of 29, supported by his brothers Kurt and Hans-Heinrich. Bielefeld remained the headquarters . In 1950 Konrad-Wilhelm Delius founded the magazine “Gute Fahrt”, a car magazine specially for Volkswagen drivers . In 1963 the publishing house started its training program for recreational boaters with the textbook “Driving license A for sailors”. In 1974 the car repair series This is how it's done by Hans-Rüdiger Etzold followed . In 2011 the 150th volume in this series was published. In 1977 surf magazine was founded.

In 1982, today's publisher Konrad Delius became a member of the management . In 1988 Delius Klasing merged with the Hamburg publisher Edition Maritim . At the end of the 1980s , the subject portfolio was expanded to include cycling and recreational sports. In 1989, BIKE, the first mountain bike magazine was founded in Germany, followed in 1997 by the takeover of the road bike magazine TOUR . In 1994 Edition Moby Dick was taken over. The publishing house from Kiel, founded in 1980, strengthened the bicycle book program.

The publishing program includes around 1100 book titles, calendars , software products, websites and apps . As a corporate publishing service provider DKCP , Delius Klasing works for companies in the automotive and shipping industries; a title designed here is the Porsche customer magazine Christophorus . In 2018, Werkstatt GmbH, based in Göttingen, was taken over.

In 2019 Delius Klasing started a driving school for yachts and boats with the Yacht Academy . Another business area of ​​the company is the event area with events for racing cyclists, mountain bikers and water sports enthusiasts.
