Andrij Pawlowytsch Sahorodnjuk ( Ukrainian Андрій Павлович Загороднюк ; born December 5, 1976 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian entrepreneur and since August 29, 2019 Minister of Defense of Ukraine.

Life

Andrij Sahorodnjuk was born in 1976 in Kiev, which was then Soviet, and graduated from the Taras Shevchenko University Faculty of Law in 1998 with a degree in law. In 2013 and 2014 he obtained a diploma in “Financial Strategy” while studying at the Said Business School at the University of Oxford . Between 1998 and 2003 he was general director of a finance agency and then until 2004 he headed the department for finance and administrative management of the deputy head of the group management of Nadra CJSC. From 2004 to 2006 he was chief advisor to the finance department and from 2006 to 2007 he was director of new projects for this group. From 2007 to 2013 he was Managing Director of Discovery Drilling Equipment of Ukraine. From 2013 to 2019 he was a consultant to this group and in 2018 and 2019 he was the founder and CEO of Discovery Drilling Equipment. Between 2015 and 2017 he was head of the Ministry of Defense reform project office under Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak . The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed him his freelance advisor on July 5, 2019. He also became a member of the board of directors of the Ukrainian state arms company Ukroboronprom . On August 29, 2019, President Zelenskyi proposed him to the Verkhovna Rada for the post of Minister of Defense of Ukraine. Parliament then elected him Minister of Defense with 314 votes. He has also been a member of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine since September 6, 2019 . He held both offices until the government reshuffle on March 4, 2020.
