Ihor Jossypowytsch Tenjuch ( Ukrainian Ігор Йосипович Тенюх ; born May 23, 1958 in Stryj , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian admiral and politician. From February 27, 2014 to March 25, 2014 he was Minister of Defense of Ukraine in the Yatsenyuk I cabinet .

Life

Tenjuch graduated from the Leningrad Higher Naval School in 1982 , named after MW Frunze, and then began serving as an officer in the Soviet Navy as a ship commander. After the country gained independence in 1991, within a commission of the Verkhovna Rada , he took part in the drafting of legislation for the establishment of the Ukrainian armed forces, defense and national security issues. In 2002 he was the commander of the multinational Blackseafor .

During the Orange Revolution of 2004, Tenjuch was one of the few high-ranking military officials who openly joined the opposition. From March 23, 2006 to March 19, 2010 Tenjuch was Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Naval Forces , since August 22, 2008 with the rank of admiral. Immediately after Viktor Yanukovych was elected President of Ukraine , he was relieved of this position. After the Euromaidan , Tenjuch was proposed for the post of incumbent defense minister by the nationalist all-Ukrainian association "Svoboda" when the transitional government was formed in February 2014 .

After criticizing his hesitant attitude in dealing with the Crimean crisis , Tenjuch resigned on March 25, 2014. Mychajlo Kowal became his successor .

Honors

Tenjuch received the Order of Merit of Ukraine 3rd Class in 2007 .
