The Andritzbach is a nearly 9 km long brook in the municipal area of Stattegg and Graz in Styria in Austria .
course
The Andritzbach rises in Stattegg on the eastern slope of the Hohen Rannach south of the Leber (and not, as is often assumed, in the Andritz origin ). Its upper course, often referred to as the Stattegg Brook , is routed as a street channel over long distances in the Stattegg-Hub area. After entering the urban area of Graz, a Mühlgang branches off , which joins the Andritzbach again at the Andritz School Biology Center north of St. Veiter Straße .
The stream follows the Stattegger Straße before it branches off to the right and flows through the Andritz AG site . The Andritzbach flows through the entire Andritz district of Graz and flows into the Mur at the level of the Arlandgrund in the Weinzödl bird sanctuary , which was prescribed in 2017 .
The most important tributaries of the Andritzbach are the flow of the original source as well as the Gabriachbach and the Höllbach .
Flood hazard
Due to its extensive catchment area and - especially in the Graz city area - to small stream beds, the Andritzbach quickly floods. Over 250 houses are affected. The HQ100 is calculated with a discharge of 26 m³ / s. For this reason, flood protection measures have been in progress since 2012. [obsolete] A flood retention basin is planned on the Höllbach with 120,000 m³ (discharge reduction from 9 to 0.5 m³) and directly on the Andritzbach with 160,000 m³ volume, which should reduce the water volume from 26 to 10 m³ / s. In addition, the lower reaches of the Höllbach will be enlarged and renatured.
Water use
The Andritzbach contributes to the water supply in Graz via a discharge in the area of the machine factory . The water is used to recharge the groundwater in the Andritz waterworks.
