Satellite galaxy of M31 |
Andromeda IX is a spheroidal dwarf galaxy (dSph) in the constellation of Andromeda . It is a satellite galaxy of M31 and was discovered in 2004 by the research group Zucker et al. on recordings of the screening of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey discovered. She belongs to the Local Group and therein to the Andromeda Subgroup . At the time of its discovery it was the galaxy with the lowest surface brightness µ V = 26.8 mag / arcsec 2 and the lowest absolute brightness at all.
Andromeda IX was discovered on a scan along the main axis of the Andromeda Nebula (M31), which was carried out in October 2002. The distance is estimated in McConnachie et al. from 2005 equated with that of its mother galaxy.
