Andrzej Tarkowski

Andrzej Krzysztof Tarkowski (born May 4, 1933 in Warsaw ; † September 23, 2016 ) was a Polish embryologist and professor emeritus at the Faculty of Biology, Embryology Department, University of Warsaw .

life and work

Tarkowski graduated from the Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences at the University of Warsaw in 1955. He received a scholarship from the Foundation of the Rockefeller Institute of Zoology of the University College of North Wales in Bangor . From 1964 to 2003 he was head of the embryology department at Warsaw University. In 1972 he was appointed professor and was director of the Institute for Zoology from 1972 to 2003. There he headed a research group from 1995 to 1998 that dealt with the early embryonic development of the mouse, the meiosis and mitosis cycles as well as the cell nucleus - cytoplasm interactions.

Tarkowski was visiting professor at Oxford University , Rockefeller University of New York, University of Adelaide , the Institut Jacques Monod of the CNRS and the University of Paris XII .

In addition to his professional activity, he dedicates himself to photography and exhibited his work several times.
