Andy Gillmann

Andreas Gillmann (* 1963 in Wiesbaden ) is a German jazz drummer , music teacher and author.

Life

From the age of 15, Gillmann had six years of lessons with the jazz drummer Peter Weiss . From 1987 to 1991 he studied at the Arnhem Conservatory with René Creemers and Joop van Eerven . During his studies he led the radio band Sixpack , performed with Harald Schmidt and Thomas Freitag in the Düsseldorf Kom (m) ödchen and accompanied the pop singer Andy Borg on a US tour.

After completing his studies, Gillmann settled in Cologne and began teaching at the Düsseldorf Drummers Institute . He gave workshops and in 1996 received a teaching assignment for drum set at the Cologne University of Music , Wuppertal department . In 1998 he published the drum textbook Drummers Inspiration with René Creemers .

In the early 1990s he undertook a. a. Tours with Gitte Haenning , Marla Glen and Pe Werner and won the Ruhrrock Prize with the group Toynbeehall . He participated in the performance of the musicals Der kleine Horrorladen in Cologne's Cinedom and Grease in Düsseldorf and wrote the drum arrangement for the German version of the musical Die Schöne und das Best , which he also recorded on CD.

In 1998 he recorded an anniversary CD with Jan Rohlfing for the tenth anniversary of the Drummers Institute . In the same year he took part in the musical Girls, Girls, Girls in Cologne. He played drums in the comedy series 7 Days, 7 Heads , took part in various CD recordings and performed with Leon Delray , Peter Bursch , Hakim Ludin , Marike Amado , Anne Haigis , Andy Galore and others.

Gillmann published further textbooks and the instructional DVD Brushes unlimited and has been leading the band Andy Gillmann & the basic instinct since 2004, and the Andy Gillmann Trio since 2005 . As a sideman he worked a. a. with David Becker , Tony Liotta , Hinrich Franck , Leslie Morgan , Georg Ruby , Ralf Cetto , Sylkie Monoff and Grant Stevens . In 2005 he took part in the CD recordings and the world premiere of the musical Robin Hood in Bremen.
