Andrew David "Andy" Gray (born November 15, 1977 in Harrogate , North Yorkshire ) is a Scottish football player . The England- born offensive player is the son of former Scottish international Frank Gray . He played two caps for the Scottish national team in 2003 . He has played for Bradford City since 2013 .

Career

Gray began his career at Leeds United in 1995 . There the midfielder could not prevail under coach George Graham and was awarded in 1997 to Bury FC in the second-rate First Division . On his return to Leeds, he was sold to Nottingham Forest in the summer of 1998 for a transfer of £ 175,000 .

At Forest he was initially used regularly in the Premier League by coach Dave Bassett , but lost his place in the squad in December. After a change of coach he was loaned to Preston North End for two months in the spring of 1999 and to Oldham Athletic after his return in late March . From summer he kicked again for the relegated Nottingham Forest against the ball and was used regularly.

After the collapse of the pay-TV rights holder ITV Digital in 2002, Nottingham Forest ran into financial problems and had to sell some players. Gray came to league rivals Bradford City , where he was one of the regulars. As a result, he played his way into the circle of the Scottish national team and came on April 2, 2003 in the 0-1 defeat against the Lithuanian national team to his debut in the national jersey. A month later he played his second and last international match in a 1-1 draw with New Zealand .

In February 2004, Gray moved on to Sheffield United . There, the Scot , who had been retrained as a striker , was able to shine as a regular goalscorer: After scoring a goal on his debut for his new club, a 1: 2 defeat against Reading FC , he scored nine goals in 14 games during his first half-series. In the following season he was one of the most dangerous players in the second division and scored 15 league goals. After the first game of the season in the 2005/06 season, in which he again scored a goal, he left the club and tried his luck at first division promoted Sunderland , who paid £ 1.1 million transfer fee. After a promising debut in which he also scored in the Premier League, he turned into a bad buy as this would remain his only goal. Therefore, he was loaned to Burnley FC in the second half of the season, which signed him in the summer.

In the Football League Championship , Gary found his way back to scoring goals. He scored ten goals this season by November before a broken foot stopped him. After a short dry spell after his recovery, he scored a total of 14 goals this season. In January 2008 he moved to league rivals Charlton Athletic for a transfer fee of about £ 1.5 million , where he saw better chances of promotion to the Premier League.
