Andrew "Andy" Schneider (born March 29, 1972 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who last played for the SERC Wild Wings in the 2nd Bundesliga ice hockey .
Career
After going through various youth and junior teams, his career began in the Canadian junior league Western Hockey League with the Seattle Thunderbirds team . For these he played in the seasons 1988/89 and 1989/90 and scored 17 goals and 28 assists in 97 games . In the winter of the 1989/90 season, Schneider moved to league rivals Swift Current Broncos , to whom he remained loyal for four years. Here he also made the jump to the second highest North American league, the American Hockey League . There he worked for the New Haven Senators and the Prince Edward Island Senators .
In 1994 he even got the chance to play in the Canadian national team and for 10 games with the NHL team Ottawa Senators , but could not assert himself at the international or NHL level. After two more years of wandering around in the lower class International Hockey League (with Minnesota Moose and Manitoba Moose ) and a guest appearance in Sweden at Leksands IF , he started a fresh start in 1997 with Revierlöwen Oberhausen in the German Ice Hockey League . From then on, he remained loyal to the DEL and was extremely successful. From 1997 to 2000 he worked for the Schwenninger Wild Wings , where he scored 39 goals and 86 assists in 129 games.
After moving to the Munich Barons , who moved to Hamburg in 2002, he joined the Hamburg Freezers . There he advanced to the top scorer (104 games, 37 goals, 60 assists) and an extremely valuable player for the Hamburg team, as he primarily stimulated the offensive , but also provided valuable services defensively and in the majority of his team. In 2004 he received a contract offer from the DEG Metro Stars , who wanted to guide the top scorer to them. Schneider accepted the three-year contract, and Düsseldorf was hoping for a big name.
At DEG, Schneider could no longer convince and played a bad season. After this "epidemic year", as he called it, Schneider vowed improvement and confessed that he wanted to show the fans why he had been brought to Düsseldorf. He was able to keep this promise, as he had been substituted in the 2005/06 season and often impressed with beautiful goals and good performance. While there were only 7 goals and 24 assists in the 2004/05 season , he increased - although he was injured at times - to 12 goals and 25 assists.
Schneider had taken a one-sided option anchored in the contract and actually wanted to stay until 2008. However, his performances in the 2006/07 season were again weak and his often listless style of play was criticized. For this reason, his contract was terminated prematurely, so that he left the DEG Metro Stars after the 2006/07 season and moved to the EC KAC in Austria . In the 2008/09 season Schneider was Austrian champion and was - especially in the play-offs - an important player in the ranks of the KAC (record holder: most points from a player in the play-offs with 26 points). In September 2009, Schneider was injured in a tough check by Benoît Gratton . He suffered a concussion and then struggled with the consequences. At the end of January 2011 he returned to his old place of work in Schwenningen for the Wild Wings. On April 19, 2011, he announced after the last playoff game that he would end his professional career.
