Angela Ahrendts DBE (born June 12, 1960 in New Palestine , Indiana ) is an American manager. From 2006 to 2014 she was CEO of the fashion company Burberry , then Apple .

Life

Ahrendts from the provincial town of New Palestine , a suburb of Indianapolis in the US state of Indiana , the third of five children of a small business owner and a former model, completed a bachelor's degree in marketing and merchandising at Ball State University in Muncie . The day after her graduation in 1981, she moved to New York , where she initially worked in sales at a men's outfitter.

Over the course of her career, she held senior positions at Donna Karan (1989–1996), Henri Bendel (1996–1998) and Liz Claiborne (1998–2005). In 2006 she was hired by Burberry as the new boss and successor to Rose Marie Bravo . In 2013 it became known that with an annual salary of just under 20 million euros, she was the best-paid CEO of all CEOs listed in the FTSE 100 Index . In spring 2014, Ahrendts switched to Apple and took over the management of the global stores. She was directly subordinate to company boss Tim Cook and also looked after the online stores. On February 5, 2019, Apple announced that Ahrendts would leave the company in April.

Angela Ahrendts is a Methodist and lives in London with her husband and three children.
