Angela Gronenborn
Angela Maria Gronenborn (born May 11, 1950 in Cologne ) is a German-American chemist and professor at the University of Pittsburgh in the USA.
Career
Gronenborn studied chemistry at the University of Cologne and received her doctorate there in 1978. She then carried out research at the National Institute for Medical Research in London, UK. From 1984 to 1988 she headed the Biological NMR Group at the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Martinsried and completed her habilitation in physical biochemistry at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich in 1987 . She then continued her research in the USA, first at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda and then at the University of Pittsburgh .
She has held the UPMC Rosalind Franklin Professorship since 2005 and is Head of the Department of Structural Biology at the University of Pittsburgh. Since 2006 she has also been Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh and Swanson School of Engineering, and Director of the Pittsburgh Center for HIV Protein Interactions (PCHPI).
research
Gronenborn is an expert in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR spectroscopy), which she uses for the study of proteins and complex macromolecules . She conducts research in the field of structural biology and molecular biophysics and tries to elucidate the basic mechanisms that mediate cellular functions in biological systems.
One focus of her work is research on the proteins involved in the replication of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) .
