Angus McGruther

Angus McGruther (* 1985 in Sydney ) is an Australian actor .

Life

Angus McGruther grew up in a suburb to the east of Sydney and attended a Catholic boys' school that offered German as a second language in its teaching canon. He continued to study German while he was in high school in Australia. Through the German Film Festival , which takes place in various cities in Australia , he came into contact with German film and learned a.o. a. Good bye Lenin! and know other German-language films.

From 2004 to 2006 he studied acting at the University of Wollongong , where he completed the theater program with a “Bachelor of Creative Arts: Theater”. After graduating, he came to Berlin while he was backpacking across Europe , where he received a small role in Peter Zadek's Peer Gynt production at the Berliner Ensemble in 2006 . In 2007 and 2008 he played leading roles in Australian theater productions, but then returned to Berlin, which now became the starting point for his artistic activity.

From 2009 to 2011 he attended the acting school "Actors Space Berlin", where he was trained by Mike Bernardin and instructed in the Meisner Technique .

In 2011 he took on a leading role alongside Kristina Klebe , Rudolf Martin , Fabian Stumm , Ben Bela Böhm and Janina Elkin in the feature film Bela Kiss: Prologue by Lucien Förstner , a horror thriller about the Hungarian serial killer Béla Kiss , which was released in theaters in January 2013 came. In the television film Bella Dilemma - Three are one too many (2013) from the ZDF Bella film series , he was the Australian surf instructor Taree and son-in-law of the Berlin ex-married couple Jung ( Andrea Sawatzki and Thomas Sarbacher ).

This was followed by roles in other German-language television productions, alongside August Zirner in the TV film Nele in Berlin (2015), as Jeff (head of the character Iffi Zenker) in Lindenstrasse (2015-2017, with Rebecca Siemoneit-Barum as a partner ) and in the documentary series Mitten in Deutschland: NSU (2016). In the German-Luxembourgish television series Bad Banks (2018) he took on a continuous supporting role. In the ARD television series Die Diplomatin (2018), with Natalia Wörner in the lead role, he played one of the main roles in the episode as a traumatized and deserted US sergeant and " whistleblower " Sean Miller.

In the TV series Reiterhof Wildenstein , which will be broadcast from May 2019 , McGruther embodies the "American high-tech cowboy" Jack, the friend and partner of the female main character Rike ( Klara Deutschmann ).

McGruther has also worked in several short films and works as a voice actor, speaker and presenter. He lives in Berlin.
