Ann-Katrin Naidu is a German opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Ann-Katrin Naidu received her training at the University of Music and Performing Arts in her hometown of Stuttgart and at the University of Tübingen. While still a student she sang at the Württemberg State Opera and then on a permanent contract at the opera houses of Saarbrücken and Mannheim, where she performed in major mezzo roles such as Charlotte, Mignon and Sextus.

Naidu embodied over 70 stage roles at the State Theater Gärtnerplatz, including Carmen, Johanna von Orléans, Niklas, Cherubino, Hansel, composer, Prince Orlofsky, Boccaccio and Fata Morgana. She is also engaged at the Bavarian State Opera for operas such as La traviata , Der Ring des Nibelungen and Falstaff . In addition to her work as an opera singer, Naidu can be heard regularly in many countries with her concert repertoire. She sang under the direction of Lorin Maazel , Zubin Mehta and Christian Thielemann .

In addition to her guest appearances as an opera singer, Ann-Katrin Naidu is represented at major music festivals with her extensive concert repertoire, from the great oratorios of Bach, Verdi's Requiem and Gustav Mahler's symphonies to contemporary works. She has made guest appearances in Japan, Israel and the USA and has appeared as a soloist in numerous world premieres and sang with the most important German orchestras. For example, she performed Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and his 3rd Symphony , in which she sang the alto part, in Tokyo and at the Prague Autumn Festival. In 2001 she made her debut at La Scala in Milan as Laura in Luisa Miller . In 2004 she recorded a CD with Robert Kulek. In 2005 she could be heard in the new production of Hoffmann's Tales at the Seattle Opera. In 2007 she participated in the new production of Rheingold in Valencia and Florence.

The conductors Ann-Katrin Naidu has worked with include Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel, Kent Nagano and Christian Thielemann.

In 2019 she was appointed chamber singer by the Bavarian State Minister .
