Anna Giuruki ( Greek Άννα Γιουρούκη, born November 2, 1983 in Rinteln ) is a former Greek national handball player .
Athletic career
Anna Giuruki was discovered at the age of 4 by the former German national player Ilona Sundermeier. The handball trainer at the time recognized her talent early on and brought her to TuS Eintracht Minden . After she demonstrated her talent in the youth teams, the then Bundesliga coach Dieter Löffelmann also became aware of the 14-year-old and signed her to the women's Bundesliga squad.
Giuruki signed her first professional contract at the age of 16 and then played her first Bundesliga games. Until 2003 she played for the Bundesliga club TuS Eintracht Minden, with whom she became vice- cup winner in 1999 .
In the 2003/04 season, the backcourt player then moved to TuS Nettelstedt for a year , for which she previously had double play rights. In 2004 she signed a contract in Greece, where she played until 2009 in the 1st division for AC Aris Thessaloniki , with whom she took part in the European Cup Winners' Cup. In the summer of 2009 she then joined the first division club Paok Thessaloniki .
From 2003 to 2009 Giuruki was a member of the squad of the Greek junior (8 internationals) and women's national team (50 internationals). She played three European Championship and three World Cup qualifying tournaments and was appointed to the 20-man squad for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . In 2005 and 2009 she was part of the squad of the Mediterranean Games , which were held in Spain and Italy .
In 2011 she returned to Germany , where she played for TSV Hahlen , the handball community Bad Salzuflen and HSV Minden-Nord in the third division . In summer 2017 she ended her active handball career.
Professional career
From 2003 to 2006 Giuruki studied international tourism and event management at the Euro Business College in Bielefeld .
She then went to Durham (UK), where she completed her Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Management , Business and Administration.
She has worked as an event manager since 2014 and supports the Mansur Faqiryar Foundation in Bremen on a voluntary basis .
