Hanna Mykolajiwna Solowej ( Ukrainian Ганна Миколаївна Соловей , English transcription also Anna Solovej , Ganna Solovei or Hanna Solovey ; born January 31, 1992 in Luhansk ) is a Ukrainian cyclist who is active on the road and rail .

Athletic career

In 2009 Hanna Solowej became the junior world champion in the road time trial and came second at the European road championships. At the UCI Track World Championships for Juniors in 2009 on the Velodrome of Krylatskoje in Moscow, she won bronze in the single pursuit . In the following years she was successful nationally and internationally, especially in time trial competitions.

In 2011 Solowej tested positive for steroids and was banned for two years for doping .

At the UCI Road World Championships 2014 in Ponferrada , Hanna Solowej was runner-up in the time trial. At the following press conference she reported that she had fled from her hometown Lugansk to Lviv before the armed conflict during the crisis in Ukraine . There is a cycling track there , on which she has prepared for the world championships.

In June 2015, her team Astana-Acca Due O surprisingly announced the separation from Solowej after she had been introduced as the new hope of the women's team at the beginning of the season. The team management gave their "unprofessional attitude" as the reason. The Ukrainian cycling association CFU, on the other hand, saw the reason for the separation that Solowej had refused to accept Kazakh citizenship. Solowej moved to the Dutch team Parkhotel Valkenburg , where she stayed until 2018.

In 2015 Hanna Solowej became Ukrainian champion in the individual time trial . In 2017 she and Oksana Kliachina won the national title in two-man team driving on the track. She won the points race at the European Games in 2019 .
