The Astana Women's Team is a women's cycling team founded in 1996 and based in Cornuda (Province of Treviso / Italy ). The team has had the status of UCI Women's Team since 2005 and drives with a Kazakh license.
Organization and history
Cyclists Giorgia Bronzini , Marta Bastianelli , Gunn-Rita Dahle , Nicole Cooke , Nicole Brändli , Edita Pučinskaitė , Sulfija Chassanowna Sabirowa and Diana Žiliūtė drove for the team led by manager Maurizio Fabretto . The team was joined in the 2013 season by the sporting director Franco Chirio , who was manager of the Chirio-Forno d'Asolo team until 2013 . He was replaced by Zoulfia Zabirova for the 2015 season .
One of the team's greatest successes was Nicole Cooke's victory at the Giro d'Italia Femminile in 2004 and two victories at the Grande Boucle Féminine by Edita Pučinskaitė in 1998 and Diana Žiliūtė in 1999. The team's riders also won the women's cycling world cup three times : Diana Žiliūtė 1998 and 2000 and Nicole Cooke 2003 .
With their respective national teams, members of the team won twelve titles at UCI world championships on the road and track - most recently the Italian Giorgia Bronzini the 2011 road world championships - and the 1996 Olympic time trial competition (Sulphia Chassanovna Sabirova, Russia).
