Life

Annette Langen was born in Leverkusen as the first child of a family of booksellers and grew up in Leichlingen (Rhineland) . After graduating from high school, she trained as a bookseller and then went to the USA to attend a publishing course. Back in Germany, she became a lecturer and designed the program for a children's book publisher for many years. During this time she wrote her first children's books. She has been an exclusively freelance writer since 2000.

Her breakthrough came in 1994 with the book Letters by Felix (illustrated by Constanza Droop ), which was recognized by the Society for Youth and Social Research as a “pedagogically valuable picture book” and repeatedly included in excerpts in school books and teaching materials. In Israel , Letters from Felix was the first German book to hit the bestseller lists after 1945. To date, several serial volumes and non-fiction books as well as a world atlas for children have been published, as well as audio books, games, several TV and cinema adaptations and a musical .

Another series was created from 2000 with Die kleine Motzkuh , illustrated by Imke Sönnichsen and Dorothea Ackroyd, in which intra-family conflicts are taken up with humor and solutions are shown. In the book Der kleine Herr G.Ott or how the world could get a little better, published in 2010, current topics such as religion, war and peace are dealt with from a child's perspective.

In addition to writing, Annette Langen has been volunteering for projects to promote reading and the integration of children for years : In 2001 , she sponsored a primary school in Solingen , since 2011 she has been the reading ambassador of the Reading Foundation and since 2012 patron of a mentoring project in Coesfeld . As part of the action I'll give you a story for World Book Day , her youth book Im Bann des Tornados was published in 2016 and was distributed with a print run of 1.2 million copies. Annette Langen has a daughter and a son and lives in the Bergisches Land .
