Location of Anney in Niger

Anney (also: Aney ) is a village in the Dirkou municipality in Niger .

The oasis is located in the northeast of the country in the Kaouar Valley in the Ténéré desert . Huts made of palm leaves and gardens with date palms are grouped around an old fort on a rocky hill . The German Africa researcher Gerhard Rohlfs reached Anney ("Anay") in 1866, which according to his description had 100 to 150 low houses and huts with over 500 inhabitants. The German African explorer Gustav Nachtigal visited Anney ("Anai") near his Sahara-Crossing 1869/1870. He estimated the population at that time to be around 180, whereby the approximately 100 dwellings could accommodate 400 people. The village had 525 inhabitants in 143 households in the 1988 census, 1058 inhabitants in 229 households in the 2001 census and 651 inhabitants in 120 households in the 2012 census. The population consists of Guézébida , tubu mixed with Kanuri .
