Annika Ljungberg ( pronunciation : [ ˌanːika ˈʝɵŋːbæɹʝ ], completely Karin Annika Ljungberg , also Mary Joe ) (born March 31, 1969 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish singer . She became known with the band Rednex in 1994.

She sang in the international breakthrough and greatest success of the band Cotton Eye Joe . Other hits like Wish You Were Here , Old Pop in an Oak and Wild and Free followed .

In 1996 Ljungberg left Rednex to pursue a solo career. She released several singles and an album as a solo singer and worked on various music projects. She also gained experience as a TV presenter on Festfixarna and a children's program.

At the end of 2004 Ljungberg returned to Rednex as a singer and won a gold record within a few weeks with the single Mama Take Me Home . The follow-up single Fe Fi (The Old Man Died) also made it into the Swedish charts . In 2008 she left the group again.

Rednex and Ljungberg took part in the preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest for Romania with the song Well-o-wee , but the song was disqualified. She also took part in the following year with the title Railroad, Railroad .

Personal

From 1999 to 2014 Ljungberg was married to her Rednex bandmate Jens Sylsjö, with whom they have a child.
