Old Pop in at Oak is a song by Swedish Country - Dance band Rednex in 1994. The second single of their debut album Sex & Violins was written by Pat Reiniz and produced.

Music and lyrics

Old Pop in an Oak mixes elements of country music with the pounding beats of the then modern dance genre. A dominant, memorable Fidel motif, which is played again and again after the chorus, sets the tone. Mary Joe sings in the stanzas while Göran Danielsson sings the chorus. Before the second verse is followed by a Banjo - Solo , after the third chorus a bridge in which a Jew's harp is heard while a male voice repeats the name of the band. Immediately after it, a fidel solo begins, which differs from the main motif. The song is also characterized by cartoon-like sound effects and heckling that are associated with the Wild West , such as whips or cow noises , as well as the exclamation “Yeehaw!”.

In terms of content, Old Pop in an Oak is one of the band's most absurd and humorous songs. In the first verse, the singer describes how she chokes on snus at the grotesque sight of her father sitting in an oak tree . In the second stanza we learn the reason the patriarch took refuge in the tree: he is hiding from his wife after trying to grill her pet, a skunk named Garth .

Music video

The music video for Old Pop in at Oak is characterized by wild, to square dance reminiscent dance moves and a clichéd western-like scenery. The actors, who are suitably costumed for the setting, stand out for their unclean, grubby appearance. Rednex sometimes stand in what at first glance appears to be a large bird cage and dance or swing. Only in the course of the video does the relation to the background make it clear that the musicians are actually tiny. The band members are often in front of a desert landscape with eye-catching cacti and take turns dancing in front of the camera. Later, a car appears full of women dancing with the band. The father is sung whistle to see smoking in a tree, on the even of the cage of a several times a close-up that appears parrot depends. Towards the end the band members, now normal again, try to cut the tree with a saw .
