Music and lyrics

Hold Me for a While is a pop - ballad , the elements of country music includes. It is characterized by melodic guitar playing , soft keyboard sounds , a dramatically increasing structure and a bridge in which a choir begins, who sings the last chorus together with the singer. Whippy takes on the sole lead vocals; In some places it is accompanied or supplemented by background singers. In addition to the album version, there is also a radio edit used on the single and in the music video, which has the same musical characteristics, but is shortened by about one and a half minutes compared to the original version. It lacks the entire first verse and parts of the first refrain.

The song is written from the perspective of a woman who spends the last evening together with her lover before the latter has to leave the next day and travel miles away due to unspecified circumstances. It does not explain whether the separation is permanent or temporary. The first-person narrator, who sings about her loved one, recognizes tears on his face and also complains herself how much she will miss his kisses and touches. She asks him to give her one last night of love and hold her for a while before morning takes him away from her.

Music video

The music video begins with a shot of the ruins of a stone archway that stands in the forest . A sorceress wrapped in a red cloak materializes there , blowing rose petals into the wind , which are flying over a lake . A child in a loincloth runs out of a tree and sees a group of three adventurers who first cross the river on a rowboat and later, led by the child, march through the forest. At the end it leads the men to the sorceress, who opens a kind of magical portal through which they pass. One of them hugs her. Whippy stands alternately in a desert and a mountain landscape and sings the song; she wears a sumptuous green dress, the long veil of which blows in the wind behind her.

Valentine version

In 2019 Rednex re-recorded the title under the name Hold Me for a While (Valentine Version) . The instrumentation is clearly more minimalistic than in the original version; the lead voice is accompanied exclusively by the guitar, keyboards and background vocals, which are heavily mixed in the background. After the third chorus, this version ends immediately before the choir begins in the original version. The Valentine version could not prove itself in the charts worldwide.
