Anonima Castelli is an Italian furniture manufacturer .

history

Ettore Castelli founded a small workshop in Bologna in 1877 . In 1939 the company was renamed Anonima Castelli and during this time it became famous for the design and production of modern office furniture. In 1960 the interior designer Giancarlo Piretti joined Anonima Castelli as director of research and design, where he designed numerous models (especially seating furniture) until 1972 and thus played a key role in the international success of Anonima Castelli. One of his well-known designs is the plia foldable plastic chair , which he presented at the Fiera del Mobile in Milan in 1967 and which has sold more than four million pieces since 1969. The property won in 1971 at the Biennale Ljubljana the price BIO5 and in 1973 the German Design Award Good Design Award. Copies of the chair are in collections of museums in Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and the United States.

Piretti's other designs for Anonima Castelli include the DCS 106 stacking chair (1965), the Plona folding chair (1969), the Alky chair (around 1970), the Plantone tables (1970) and Plano (1971, gold medal IBD), the Planto coat stand ( 1972), the modular sofa system 61 (1973), the Plurium umbrella stand . as well as the ergonomic seating systems Vertebra (1979, SMAU Industrial Design Award ) and Dorsal (1981) conceived together with the Argentine architect and designer Emilio Ambasz .

Other designs for Anonima Castelli were by Claudio Bellini , Rodolfo Bonetto , Michele De Lucchi , Hans Ell, Doriana and Massimiliano Fuksas , Gino Gamberini, Nilo Gioacchini, Enzo Mari , Charles Pollock , Ferdinand Alexander Porsche , Mario Ruiz and Richard Sapper . Important designs include Sapper's desk with five to nine seats from 1986 (awarded the Compasso d'Oro industrial design prize ), Pollock's Penelope Chair from 1982, the Porsche Executive Office Series from 1989 and Ruiz's program with the K22 model from 2005 The Compasso d'Oro was awarded four times to Castelli between 1981 and 1991.

Anonima Castelli has been part of Haworth, Inc. since 1992 . After its bankruptcy in 2014, the company was sold to the Pavan family in 2015 (with Enrico Pavan as managing director of the new company Castelli srl in Pordenone ) and relaunched the brand and its products. Since 2019, under the artistic direction of Simona Franci, the company has been redesigning classic products with a view to environmental compatibility.
