Klebenstein near Bozen (South Tyrol)

The Klebenstein residence , often also called the castle , is located in Bolzano in South Tyrol .

A medieval residential tower from the 13th century , originally called Karnol, forms the core of the complex . The tower was built at the intersection of the road from Bolzano to Sarntal and from Jenesien to Gries and Moritzing . At the place of the tower a bridge led over the Talfer very early .

In the course of the 14th to 16th centuries , the complex was expanded several times into a residence , including a chapel and several residential wings. However, it did not get its current appearance until around 1900. After Adam von Clewenstain , the owners of Klebenstein, who were attested to Adam von Clewenstain in the provost accounts of the Gries parish church in 1422/26 , the residence was later named. In the 19th century , the estate was the seat of the von Kofler family, who also managed the nearby Runkelstein Castle . The small baroque St. Anton church that belongs to the complex is worth seeing .

The houses around the Klebenstein residence and the nearby Rendelstein down to the feet of Runkelstein Castle belong to the St. Anton district of Bolzano, which goes back to the baroque St. Antonius Chapel at Klebenstein Castle. Two promenades end at the residence : The Talfer Promenade or Bozen Water Wall and the St. Oswald Promenade .
