António José da Rocha Couto SMP (born April 18, 1952 in Vila Boa do Bispo ) is Bishop of Lamego .

Life

António José da Rocha Couto joined the Portuguese Missionary Society of Boa Nova (Missionários dà "Boa Nova" SMP) and was ordained a priest on December 3, 1980 . From 2002 to 2007 he was the superior general of his order.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on July 6, 2007 auxiliary bishop in Braga and titular bishop of Azura . The Archbishop of Braga , Jorge Ferreira da Costa Ortiga , donated him episcopal ordination on September 23 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Manuel José Macário do Nascimento Clemente , Bishop of Porto , and António Augusto dos Santos Marto , Bishop of Leiria-Fátima .

He was appointed Bishop of Lamego on November 19, 2011 and was introduced to the office on January 29 of the following year.
