Antônio Batista Fragoso (born December 10, 1920 in Teixeira , Paraíba , Brazil ; † August 12, 2006 ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Crateús .

Life

Antônio Batista Fragoso was ordained a priest on July 2, 1944 .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on March 13, 1957 titular bishop of Ucres and auxiliary bishop in São Luís do Maranhão . The Archbishop of São Luís do Maranhão, José de Medeiros Delgado , donated him episcopal ordination on May 30 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Otàvio Barbosa Aguiar , Bishop of Campina Grande , and Manuel Pereira da Costa , Auxiliary Bishop in Paraíba .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on April 28, 1964 as the first bishop of the diocese of Crateús, newly established in the previous year .

He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

On February 18, 1998, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
