Manuel Pereira da Costa

Manuel Pereira da Costa (born September 12, 1915 in Pocinhos , Paraíba , Brazil ; † July 25, 2006 ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Campina Grande .

Life

Manuel Pereira da Costa received on 23 March 1940, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on May 31, 1954 auxiliary bishop in Paraíba and titular bishop of Tinum . The Bishop of Nazaré , Carlos Gouvêa Coelho , donated him episcopal ordination on August 15 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Zacarias Rolim de Moura , Bishop of Cajazeiras and Luis do Amaral Mousinho , Bishop of Ribeirão Preto .

Pope John XXIII appointed him on June 20, 1959 Bishop of Nazaré. On August 23, 1962, he was appointed Bishop of Campina Grande .

He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father. Pope John Paul II accepted his early resignation on May 20, 1981.
