Otávio Barbosa Aguiar

Otávio Barbosa Aguiar (born April 22, 1913 in Orobó , † December 9, 2004 in Maceió ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Palmeira dos Índios .

Life

Otávio Barbosa Aguiar was ordained a priest on April 28, 1935 .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on November 6, 1954 auxiliary bishop in São Luís do Maranhão and titular bishop of Gergis . The Bishop of Niterói , Carlos Gouvêa Coelho , ordained him episcopal on January 30 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were José de Medeiros Delgado , Archbishop of São Luís do Maranhão, and José Vicente Távora , Auxiliary Bishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro .

The Pope appointed him Bishop of Campina Grande on February 24, 1956 . Pope John XXIII appointed him on July 4, 1962 as the first bishop of the newly founded diocese of Palmeira dos Índios . During the Second Vatican Council , he participated as a council father in all four sessions. He resigned from his office on March 29, 1978.
