João de Souza Lima (Archbishop)
João de Souza Lima OCist (born March 22, 1913 in Tacaratu , Pernambuco , Brazil ; † October 1, 1984 in Salvador , Bahia ) was a Brazilian religious and Roman Catholic coadjutor archbishop of São Salvador da Bahia .
Life
João de Souza Lima visited the Colégio Estadual de Pernambuco in Recife before 1933, the Seminary of Olinda entered, where he philosophy studied. From 1936 to 1939 he studied Catholic theology at the seminary in São Leopoldo . João de Souza Lima received on 12 November 1939, the sacrament of Holy Orders . He then taught at the Ginásio Diocesano Cristo Rei in Pesqueira .
On May 14, 1949, Pope Pius XII appointed him . as titular bishop of Derbe and auxiliary bishop in Diamantina . The Bishop of Pesqueira , Adelmo Cavalcante Machado , donated him episcopal ordination on September 21 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Mossoró , João Batista Portocarrero Costa , and the Bishop of Garanhuns , Juvéncio de Brito .
On February 6, 1955, Pius XII appointed him. to the Bishop of Nazaré . João de Souza Lima became Archbishop of Manaus on January 16, 1958 . From 1972 to 1975 he was also Apostolic Administrator of Itacoatiara . Pope John Paul II appointed him on April 21, 1980 Coadjutor Archbishop of São Salvador da Bahia.
