Milton Corrêa Pereira

Milton Corrêa Pereira (born November 18, 1919 in Cametá , Pará , Brazil ; † May 23, 1984 ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Manaus .

Life

Milton Corrêa Pereira received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará on June 29, 1943 .

Pope John XXIII appointed him on August 23, 1962 titular bishop of Coronea and auxiliary bishop in Belém do Pará. The Archbishop of Belém do Pará, Alberto Gaudêncio Ramos , donated him episcopal ordination on September 30 of the same year . Co-consecrators were the prelate of Marajó , Gregório Alonso Aparicio OAR , and the prelate of Cametá , Cornélio Veerman CM . He took part in the second, third and fourth sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a Council Father.

Pope Paul VI appointed him Bishop of Garanhuns on August 4, 1967 . On April 25, 1973 he was appointed coadjutor archbishop of Manaus and titular archbishop pro hac vice of Equilium . As coadjutor sedi datus , he did not automatically succeed Archbishop João de Souza Lima OCist when he resigned on April 21, 1980. Instead, Pope John Paul II appointed him Apostolic Administrator of Manaus on the same date . On March 5, 1981, Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Manaus.
