Antônio Carlos , officially Portuguese Município de Antônio Carlos , is a municipality in the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil .

General Information

According to the 2010 census, the community had 7,458 inhabitants, called Antônio-Carlenser. It is 149th of the 295 towns in Santa Catarina according to population. The number of inhabitants was calculated according to the estimate of the IBGE from July 1, 2019 to 8,513 inhabitants. The area is around 233.6 km² (2017) at an altitude of 30 to 886 m above sea level; the population density in 2010 was 32.62 people per km².

The distance to the state capital Florianópolis is 32 km, to Blumenau 130 km and to Brasília 1710 km.

history

Portuguese and blacks were already living in the area of Alto Biguaçu when German settlers from the Hunsrück region in Rhineland-Palatinate arrived in 1830 .

The community of Antônio Carlos was founded on November 6, 1963 when Alto Biguaçu was partitioned and named after the Brazilian politician Antônio Carlos Ribeiro de Andrada , a politician who participated in the 1930 Brazilian Revolution .

City administration

City prefect (executive) was after the local elections in 2012 for the 2013 to 2016 term of office Antonio Paulo Remor of the right-wing progressive party (PP), his successor in the 2016 election for the 2017 to 2020 term of office was Geraldo Pauli of the Partido do Movimento Democrático Brasileiro (PMDB).
