Antônio Reis (Bishop)

Antônio Reis (born October 28, 1885 in Santa Cruz do Sul , Rio Grande do Sul , Brazil , † September 14, 1960 ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Santa Maria .

Life

Antônio Reis received on 30 November 1910, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On July 31, 1931, Pope Pius XI appointed him . to the Bishop of Santa Maria . The Archbishop of Porto Alegre , João Batista Becker , donated him episcopal ordination on December 13 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Uruguaiana , Hermeto José Pinheiro , and the Bishop of Pelotas , Joaquim Ferreira de Melo . The inauguration in the diocese of Santa Maria took place on January 13 of the following year. His motto was Ad Jesum per Mariam ( To Jesus through Mary ).

During his tenure, Reis established sixty new parishes and accompanied the establishment of the diocese Passo Fundo from parts of his diocese in 1951. He paid particular attention to the promotion of the priestly and religious professions and the charitable tasks of the church. In 1935 he initiated the establishment of the Nossa Senhora Medianeira sanctuary . His tomb is in the Cathedral of Santa Maria.
